1889-91 Demonsthenis Orationes ex Recensione Guilielmi Dindorfii
What Our Customers Say...
Demosthenes (384-322BC) was an important Athenian orator and statesman, and his works give an important view into the political and social world of Ancient Greece. He was lauded by contemporaries such as Cicero and Quintilian as excelling above all other orators.
This edition was compiled by Karl Wilhelm Dindorf (1802-1883), an important German classical scholar, and the fourth edition was edited by Friedrich Blass, (1843-1907), another German classical scholar primarily remembered for his studies of Greek oratory. This edition is part of the 'Bibliotheca Teubneriana', or Teubner editions, a collection of Latin and Greek texts containing scholarly criticisms, although this 'editio minor' is published with the Greek text alone.
In a full cloth binding. Externally lovely, minor shelf wear to spine and extremities only. Inscription to a G. Thomson dated 1893 has been crossed out in all volumes and replaced by a W. W. White, of Keble College, dated '94. Vol I has numerical annotations to the rear pastedown. Internally firmly bound, all volumes have been annotated in the margins in both pencil and pen, but otherwise pages are bright and clean.
