The scarce first edition. With copies held in twelve British libraries. In the original pictorial hardback binding. A collection of Hampshire folk songs, including titles such as The Besom Maker, the Wassail Song and The Jolly Ploughboy, Each page is elaborately illustrated by the author, Heywood Sumner. Sumner was an English painter, illustrator and craftsman who was closely involved with the Arts and Crafts movement.
Condition
In the original hardback binding. Externally, a trifle rubbed with shelf wear to the edges. The spine is cracked with the upper and lower parts loosening. Boards are darkened. Marks to the boards, with red ink stains to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age-toned to the edges but otherwise bright and clean.
