This work focuses on the evolution of human cognitive and physical functions, published after Charles Darwin's death, attempting to defend his theories. Romanes' work had expanded of Darwin's theories, publishing 'Animal Intelligence', and 'Mental Evolution in Animals'. George Romanes was an evolutionary biologist and physiologist. He was an academic friend of Darwin, and is considered to have invented the term 'neo-Darwinism'. With a folding frontispiece. Bookplate to the front pastedown, 'T. G. Kerans'. Label to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Ex Libris. T. W. Mitchell, M.D., Presented by Mrs Mitchell'. This is possibly Thomas Walker Mitchell, a British physician and psychical researcher who wrote extensively on medical psychology and psychopathology.
Condition
In the original full calf binding. Externally, smart. A little rubbing to the raised bands, and to the joints. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Hinges are slightly starting but firm. Bookplate to the front pastedown, 'T. G. Kerans'. Label to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Ex Libris. T. W. Mitchell, M.D., Presented by Mrs Mitchell'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with just the odd spot, mostly to the endpapers.
