Illustrated

Volumes I, II, III, IV, VI and VII are present, lacking volume V. Collation available for volume II, complete. No collation available for volumes I, II-IV and VI to VIII though appear complete. With vignette illustrations throughout demonstrating the wide range of topics discussed. Some illustrations include facsimiles of Dickens' work, title pages as well as diagrams of theatres, bookplates and spine details. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. Each volume is an anthology of articles relating to bibliographical subjects. For example, there are articles on French bookbinding, buying books, chained libraries as well as anecdotes on rearing bookworms and historical chapters such as the history of the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Some articles discuss famous writers and their works, Shakespeare and Dickens are among several mentioned.

Condition

In full cloth bindings with gilt stamping to spines. Externally, generally smart with bumping to head and tail of spines and extremities. All hinges are slightly strained but firm. Bookplate to front pastedowns of all volumes, Samuel Davies, Frodsham. Internally, endpapers and title page-2pp are weakly bound. Otherwise, volume I is firmly bound. Volumes II-VI are firmly bound. Volume VII is generally firmly bound though strained in places. All volumes have untrimmed pages, though do not affect the text. Pages are clean throughout.
