The very scarce second edition on this historical study, scarce in all editions.

A detailed topographical and historical account of the Isle of Ely region of Cambridgeshire during the period of the Norman conquest. Following the Norman Conquest, the Isle became a refuge for Anglo-Saxon forces in 1071, eventually taken by William the Conqueror only after a prolonged struggle.

Illustrated with a frontispiece and folding plate, both of which are maps of the region discussed.

With two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear, and a former owner's inscription to a front endpaper.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with light tide mark to rear board. Front hinge slightly tender. Inscription to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Mark to title page, with the odd spot or handling mark throughout.
