Illustrated with a chromolithograph frontispiece and title page, and six further vibrant chromolithographs, alongside further vignette illustrations. Collated, complete.

Among the historical incidents discussed are the battle of Bannockburn, Alexander the Great, the plague in Florence, witchcraft, and the feudal system, in a wonderfully detailed and beautifully illustrated work, edited by Francis Watt.

With the inscription of Willie Miles, 1889, to front free endpaper and recto of illustrated title page.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with discolouration to back strip, otherwise externally excellent. Rear hinge strained, but firmly held. Contemporary inscriptions to front free endpaper and recto of illustrated title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
