First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

A first edition, two volume set. Collated, complete.

Present in volume 1 is a previous owner's 1911 Troon Golf Club course plan.

A collection of contents from 'The Gentleman's Magazine', from 1731-1868, on the topic of the early British archaeology. These two volumes are edited by Sir George Laurence Gomme (1853-1916), a leading folklorist and historian. The first volume details local discoveries in England, the second in Scotland and Wales.

Condition

In uniform quarter morocco with cloth covered boards. Externally, both volumes are generally smart with patches of rubbing to the spines, heavier to the joints. Rear hinge to volume II is tender. Rear hinge to volume I is slightly strained but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound. A few scattered spots to the first and last few pages. Pages bright and clean
