What Our Customers Say...

Description

Edward Walford (1823-1897) was a British magazine editor, specialising in antiquarian, biographical and genealogical writings. He wrote 'Walford's County Families' and 'The Windsor Peerage', as well as the existing biographical compendium 'Men of the Time', which he renamed 'Men and Women of the Time'. During his work on that compendium, he corresponded with many eminent figures, including Charles Darwin. He also edited 'the Gentleman's Magazine' and 'The Antiquary' before launching his own magazine, 'Antiquarian Magazine and Bibliographer' after a falling out with the publisher of 'The Antiquary'.

This volume contains chapters on Houses such as Lansdowne, Percy, Cavendish, Stuart, Russell and Audley.

This is a first edition, in the publisher's original binding.

Contains four pages of publisher's advertisements bound to the rear.

Condition

In a full cloth binding. Externally lovely, very minor bumping to the head of the spine on vol I and extremities only. Internally firmly bound, heavy spotting to the first and last pages but otherwise just the odd spot, pages bright.
