Part of the Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes. The series was intended as a modern encyclopedia for the inexperienced man. This volume in the series focused on field and covert in shooting. Written by Lord Walsingham and Ralph Payne-Gallwey. Walsingham was an English politician and amateur entomologist. On thirtieth of August 1888 he had a very successful day shooting on Blubberhouses Moor in Yorkshire, where he killed 1070 grouse. With a frontispiece, ten plates, and numerous in-text illustrations throughout. Illustrated by A. J. Stuart-Wortley, Harper Pennington, G. E. Lodge, J. H. Oswald Brown, and C. Whymper.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A very little marking to the boards. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A couple of marks to the fore edge. Bookplate to the front pastedown, 'William V. Vickers'. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'R. Peter Wilyman 10/4/1951'. Booksellers label from Henry Sotheran to the verso to the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. pages are bright with only the very occasional spot. A little tidemarking to the head of some of the plates, not affecting the images.
