1894 Scenenbilder Aus Parsifal
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Decorative Binding
First edition morocco bound portfolio with inserted plates of the scene pictures of Richard Wagner's opera 'Parsifal'. This scarce edition portrays the opera through illustrations by C. Ritter.
Parsifal is an opera in three acts and was Wagner's last composition. It loosely follows the thirteenth century poem Parzifal, which tells the story of the Arthurian knight Parzival on his quest for the Holy Grail. Wagner was insistent that Parsifal exclusively be performed in Bayreuth, establishing a monopoly over the play even after his death.
Wagner was an infamous composer, theatre director and conductor. He is most well known for his operas.
Includes 10 inserted monochrome plates, including the title page, and an end note by H. V. Wolzogen.
Gold engraved lettering and design on the front board.
Condition
Full morocco binding. Externally very smart. Some minor rubbing to the front board, the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Internally, intentionally unbound with paper guards, which are slightly worn. Some spotting to the pastedowns. Pages are bright and clean.
