The very scarce first edition of this work.

Charles Allen Sumner was an American lawyer and politician who served two terms as a U.S. Representative for California from 1883 to 1885.

Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous charming vignette and full page illustrations.

Arranged in twenty-six chapters, in this work Sumner recounts his journey first from London to Gothenburg, then to Sweden and Denmark, Germany, and finally Dresden, Cologne, and Paris.

With thirteen pages of advertisements to the rear.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Fading to back strip, with bumping to back strip head and tail. Light fading to perimeters of front board. Minor hole to cloth of front joint. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned but generally clean and bright, with light handling marks.
