An early edition originally published in 1885 of this book on Japanese homes, society, and customs. Profusely illustrated throughout with three hundred and seven illustrations by the author. Written by Edward S. Morse, an American zoologist and archeologist who specialised also in Oriental studies. He was known as the "father of Japanese archeology." 

With three hundred and seven illustrations.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, with gilt to front board and spine. Externally sound, with slight shelfwear and bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Slight rubbing to cloth to front and rear joint, minor loss to head of spine. S. W. Cecil Crookes' bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, hinges are slightly strained to front and rear board. Index pages 367-372 are detached but present, otherwise binding is firm throughout. Profusely illustrated with three hundred and seven illustrated in text.
