    Description

    Illustrated, Leather Binding

    An impressively detailed work of military history by Sir William F.P. Napier, British soldier and military historian. A later edition of this work, which was originally published between 1828 and 1840. A historical study of the Peninsular War between 1807 to 1814.

    Beautifully bound in uniform full calf, from the library of Douglas McGarel Hogg, 1st Viscount Hailsham with his armorial bookplate to recto front blank leaf. Inscribed with ownership to verso front free endpaper vol. I, dated 1890. 

    Illustrated with a frontispiece to vol. I engraved portrait of the author and fifty-five maps and plans. Collated, complete.

    Condition

    Rebound in full calf with five raised bands, marbled edges and endpapers. Inscribed by Douglas McGarel Hogg to verso front free endpaper, his bookplate to recto front blank leaf. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, lightly bumped and chipped to head and tail of spine, rubbed to back strip, spine lightly faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
