Two volumes, part of the Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes. This set includes 'Moor and Marsh', and 'Field and Covert'. The series was intended as a modern encyclopedia for the inexperienced man. Written by Lord Walsingham and Ralph Payne-Gallwey. Walsingham was an English politician and amateur entomologist. On thirtieth of August 1888 he had a very successful day shooting on Blubberhouses Moor in Yorkshire, where he killed 1070 grouse. 'Moor and Marsh' with a frontispiece, seven plates, and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated, complete. 'Field and Covert' with a frontispiece, nine plates, and numerous in-text illustrations. 'Field and Covert' is lacking the plate facing page 184. Plates facing pages 298 and 320 are detached but present.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light marking to the boards and spines, a little heavier to 'Field & Covert'. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Hinges of 'Field & Covert' are starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper of 'Moor and Marsh'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot and mark. 'Field and Covert' is lacking the plate facing page 184. Plates facing pages of 'Field and Covert' 298 and 320 are detached but present.
