1886-1887 The Follies & Fashions of Our Grandfathers (1807)
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Colour Plates, First Edition, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding
The first edition of British publisher and printer Andrew White Tuer's wonderful work examining the popular fashions of the year 1807, drawing his analysis from the monthly issues of twenty-four periodicals publishing fashion journalism over the course of the year.
Illustrated with thirty-seven plates, many hand coloured, and with costume plates that have been 'carefully hand tinted with gold and silver'. Collated, complete.
Of the three editions simultaneously published, this is the demy octavo, and is neither limited nor signed.
With the contemporary inscription of 'Marcia' to a front blank.
A charming insight into late nineteenth century attitudes to the styles of the start of the century.
Condition
In a half morocco binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, exceptionally bright. Light fading of paper to tail of front and rear board. Contemporary inscription to front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with only the odd light handling mark.
