A complete four volume set of The Sea: Its Stirring Story of Adventure, Peril & Heroism by Frederick Whymper. 

These volumes discuss marine life, expeditions and explorers. 

Frederick Whymper was a British artist and explorer.

With fifteen plates to the front of volume one and a vignette title page. With fifteen plates to volume two, plate 45 is loose in volume three, fifteen plates present. Fifteen plates to volume four. All are also richly illustrated throughout the text. 
Collated, complete.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with some marks to the boards and bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Front and rear hinges are starting in vol 2 and remain generally firm. Plate 45 is loose in volume three. Internally, generally firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages.
