A detailed biography of the life and career of eighteenth-century English artist, Joseph Wright of Derby. Wright was most well-known for his landscapes and portraits, and has been acclaimed as 'the first professional painter to express the spirit of the Industrial Revolution'.
Illustrated with four etched plates reproduced using Messrs. A & W Dawson's Positive Etching Process, and one further plate. Lacking two plates, both etched by Mr. F. Seymour Haden.
With a preface by Cosmo Monkhouse.
An ex library copy, with shelf number to back strip tail, bookplate removal to front pastedown, and stamps of the Newington Public Library Commission throughout.

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, discolouration to back strip. Library number to spine, losses to cloth of back strip head and tail. Front hinge strained, with board holding firm. Bookplate removal to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with a significant number of library stamps throughout.
