The first edition, third issue with the two misprints from the first and second issue ('Bamangwato' and 'Let twins live') corrected. After the first and second issue, the work was reprinted three further times that year in October, November and December. This copy has the October date to the ads to the rear, indicating that it is the third issue.

Illustrated with a folding plate to the front. 

This adventure novel was written by H. Rider Haggard and is one of the author's most popular novels, being adapted to TV and film many times. This work tells the story of an expedition to an unexplored region of Africa, lead by Haggard's popular character, Allan Quatermain. This work is considered to be one of the pioneers of the 'lost world' genre, a genre which Haggard is best known for.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally very smart with fading to the spine, very minimal handling marks, slight shelf wear and a slight lean. Hinges starting with an ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Internally generally firmly bound with slight strain in places and the odd page starting. Pages lightly age toned with scattered spotting.
