This is a First Edition of the work, in original publisher's cloth binding with gilt motif to the front cover.
This work by British author Arthur Pennington, brings to light many different Zoophytes, which are organisms thought to lie somewhere in between an animal and a plant, or an animal with plant-like features or appearance. In particular, Pennington introduces the Hydroida, the Actinozoa and Polyzoa forms of Zoophyte.
Pennington's aim with this work was to provide a handy and reliable manual for British Zoophytes to present to the next generation of students of Natural History.
There are 24 plates included, all drawn by Pennington's wife, mostly using specimen's from his cabinet. Collated, complete.
Condition
In original publisher's cloth binding, with gilt motif to front cover. Externally very smart, with minor shelf wear to the extremities. Light bumping to head and tail of spine. The occasional mark to boards. Light offsetting and the occasional mark to endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot.
