1885 Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
What Our Customers Say...
Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
The seventy-fifth thousand of Carroll's novel.
First published on 1865, Carroll's tale follows Alice as she falls down a rabbit hole and encounters various anthropomorphic creatures. The work remains one of the most popular and renowned works of both Victorian and children's fiction, having seen countless interpretations since.
Illustrated with a frontispiece - retaining the original tissue guard - and further vignette illustrations by John Tenniel. Upon the initial publication of the work, Tenniel was far more well-known than Carroll, owing to his successful career as an illustrator and cartoonist, including many pieces for the satirical periodical 'Punch'.
Retaining the original half title, and advertisement leaf to the rear.
A lovely copy of a contemporary example of this beloved work of children's literature.
Rebacked, in the publisher's original cloth binding, with boards restored and back strip laid down. Endpapers renewed. Light fading to back strip, with minor discolouration to spine head and tail, a small area of light fading to the tail of the front board, near the joint, and with minor tide marks to tail of front board. Internally, firmly bound. Significant handling marks to half title, with losses to tissue guard perimeters. Pages bright, with the odd handling mark and instance of light spotting throughout.
