Description

Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

The seventy-fifth thousand of Carroll's novel.

First published on 1865, Carroll's tale follows Alice as she falls down a rabbit hole and encounters various anthropomorphic creatures. The work remains one of the most popular and renowned works of both Victorian and children's fiction, having seen countless interpretations since.

Illustrated with a frontispiece - retaining the original tissue guard - and further vignette illustrations by John Tenniel. Upon the initial publication of the work, Tenniel was far more well-known than Carroll, owing to his successful career as an illustrator and cartoonist, including many pieces for the satirical periodical 'Punch'.

Retaining the original half title, and advertisement leaf to the rear.

A lovely copy of a contemporary example of this beloved work of children's literature.

Condition

Rebacked, in the publisher's original cloth binding, with boards restored and back strip laid down. Endpapers renewed.
