This very scarce work is number 345 of only 400 copies. This being The George Cruikshank Edition. George Cruikshank was an incredibly popular illustrator cartoonist and book illustrator, perhaps best known for illustrating many of Dickens's novels. Incredibly prolific throughout the Victorian era, he produced closed to 10,000 over the course of his lifetime. This limited edition work is illustrated by George Cruikshank, with 15 etchings. Collated complete. This Spanish novel was written by Miguel de Cervantes Saaverda, and tells the story of the Alonso Quixano who is driven made by his multiple relationship anf so attempts to reinstate chivalry under the guise of Don Quixote de la Mancha. This was both incredibly popular and influential. Translated into English by Charles Jarvis. A delightful copy of this beloved literary work, enhanced by the illustrations of this important artist and illustrator makes for a desirable copy.
Condition
In a quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and also to the extremities. Rubbing to the spine label. Small mark to the rear board, with a small tide mark to the front board, to the tail. The front and rear hinges are strained, with a tape repairs to the front hinge. Internally generally firmly bound with light straining to the reverse of the front endpaper. Internally firmly bound. Page are bright and generally clean, with light spots to several plates. Numerous pages remain uncut throughout the volume.
