What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding, Signed Binding

In a signed Sotheran and Co binding. Published as a part of his Poems, this being volume I. This verse tragedy, in the style of Shakespeare, is based on the life of St Elizabeth of Hungary. Kingsley originally began the work as prose life of the conspicuously married saint as a wedding gift for his wife, Fanny. He reworked the writing into this quasi-Shakespearean verse tragedy, first published in 1848. Charles Kingsley was a novelist, clergyman and controversialist. He was particularly associated with Christian socialism and was a friend and correspondent of Charles Darwin. He wrote several historical novels in addition to a children's book about Greek mythology.

Condition

In a full morocco binding, signed by Sotheran and Co to the front pastedown. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with spots to the endpapers.
