In a full calf binding. Portrait frontispiece of the author with his signature. 2 plates. Collated complete. John Wolstenholme Cobb (1829-1883) was an active member of the Berkhamsted Mechanics’ Institute, a social and educational society. In the winter of 1854-1855, he gave two lectures to the Institute on the history of Berkhamsted, which were later published together in this work. The first lecture is devoted to the history and construction of Berkhamsted Castle. The second lecture explores St Peter's Church and its antiquities, the Grammar School, Ashridge House and the hospitals of St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist.

Condition

In a full calf binding. Externally very smart, with some minor rubbing to the extremities, spine and board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, apart from the odd spot to the first and last few pages.
