What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce
The scarce first appearance in print of this short story from Victorian novelist Thomas Hardy.
A pastoral tale, relayed by an omniscient narrator fifty years after the events described, 'The Three Strangers' eventually became the first of the five stories that appeared in Hardy's 1888 'Wessex Tales'.
This story appears as pages 569 to 588 in the March 1883 issue of volume I, November 1882 to April 1883, of 'Longman's Magazine', a monthly periodical that focused on fiction. Alongside debuting a number of tales from Hardy, works from authors including Edith Nesbit, Rudyard Kipling and Henry James made their first appearances in this periodical.
