Description

Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

Illustrated with twelve plates. Collated, complete.

First published in 1831, this study of the mythology of ancient Greece and Rome was initially praised for making the subject matter 'fit for ladies' for the first time, with euphemisms used for the more graphic and sexual aspects of the mythology of the ancient world.

With the first section dedicated to Greek mythology, the second to mythological heroes, and the third to the mythology of Italy.

With a twenty-four page publisher's catalogue to the rear.

A label to the recto of the half title identifies the work as purchased from the Torquay Natural History Society. With no further library markings.
