A fascinating travelogue about a five month voyage on the SS Ceylon which took place from 1881 to early 1882. The journey was embarked upon by the author and a friend, and began in London, traveling first to Egypt. From Egypt, the journey continued through numerous cities in India, Penang, Singapore, Manila, China, Japan, and Pacific Islands. Once crossing the Pacific Ocean, the author continued on through North America, from San Francisco to New York, and finally back across the Atlantic to London.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with some light shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Author's inscription to the title page. Internally, hinges are lightly strained and binding is slightly tender. A few spots to the first and last few pages, and the odd spot throughout, otherwise pages are bright and clean.
