The first edition of this work.

A beautiful study of the prominent and popular artists of the late Victorian era, such as Briton Riviere, Rosa Bonheur, and Frederick Leighton.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, and many full-paged and in-text illustrations throughout.

Compiled by Wilfrid Meynell.

Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper, 'In memory of my beloved sister Bertha I give this book to our dear niece May Lewis - Therese Herboug, August 1896, and if she shall not broken shall not weep'.

Four pages of publisher's adverts to the rear.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Some minor marks to the boards and spine. Hinges are starting a little but remain firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean.
