The first edition of the work. With publisher's advertisements to the rear dated September 1882. Written by Edward Freeman, Liberal Politician and member of the American Antiquarian Society. Based on articles first published in Longman's Magazine between September 1882 and January 1883 in which Freeman gave his impressions on the US following his visits to the Northern States. An interesting perspective of the United States of America, written by a noted English historian.

Condition

In the original green cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear to the extremities. Slightly cocked. Hinges slightly strained but firm. Bookseller label for Hatchards to front pastedown. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with marginal age toning and the odd spot.
