What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Uncommon

The first edition of this work in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding.

Susan Hale (1833-1910) was an American traveller, prolific author, and famous watercolour painter, notable for her rejection of conventional feminine standards of the time.

In 1882, she visited Spain with her brother the Rev. Edward Everett Hale, his daughter, Elen Day Hale, and a family friend, Mrs. Mary Manquard. Hale learnt the language and sought an authentic experience of the country. In this work she describes various locations in Spain, such as Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and many more, as well as her personal insights on the culture and conventions of the country.
