First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

The first edition of this work. A very scarce work. A detailed work looking at fifteen prominent French and English painters, who were still alive at the end of the nineteenth century. Looking at Millais, Meissonier, Morris, Butin, Hunter, Moreau, Jacquet, and more. Illustrated with fifteen plates. Collated, complete.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with a crack to the tail of the front joint. Light discolouration to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, with a small amount of loss to the tail of the spine and to the extremities. Minor marks to the boards and spine. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, binding is cracked in places, with some pages loose. Pages are bright and generally clean with some spots and some marks. Half-title, title page, and contents page are detached but present.
