Presenting this fascinating and very comprehensive work on travel and exploration in Scandinavia, in particular Sweden, Norway Lapland, and Northern Finland.

Written in the late nineteenth century by French-American traveller, zoologist, and anthropologist, Paul Du Chaillu. His extensive research on the prehistory of Scandinavia helped inform this work. 

Complete with a frontispiece to each volume, over four hundred in-text illustrations, and two folding maps. Collated and complete. 

Containing an ink notation to the front free-endpaper of each volume. 

Also containing library stamps to the title pages of each volume: 'Library of the German Society of Philadelphia'.

Condition

In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Externally, some bumping to the head and tail of spine and extremities, resulting in a small amount of loss to the cloth to the tail of the spine and top right corner of the front board on Volume I. Some loss to the cloth on the spine, due to a sticker removal. Previous owner's ink notation to the front pastedown and front free-endpaper of each volume. Internally, front hinge to Volume I has failed, resulting in exposure of the interior of the spine. Rear hinge to Volume I held by cords only. Front hinge to Volume II tender but firm. Title page to Volume I has detached but is present. A few tears to the rear free-endpaper of Volume I due to a library sticker that is still present. Library stamps to the title pages of each volume. A light damp stain present to the bottom of pages 21 to 74 of Volume I, otherwise pages are generally bright and clean.
