Complete in two volumes. Bookplate of Thomas Enfield Harbottle to the front paste downs. Harbottle was a Theosophist who was in the inner circle of Madame Blavatsky.

This work is an account of the author's grand journey he made to the countries of the Orient, a journey made in royal luxury between July 1832 and September 1833.

Lamartine describes his travels in a brilliant and bold style, richly describing the Middle East and South Eastern European as it was at the beginning of the nineteenth century. 

During the course of this journey Lemartine lost his only daughter.

Condition

In a full calf binding. Externally, smart. Small chip and patch of lifting to the head of the spine of Volume I. Minor marks to the boards. Light bumping to the extremities. Spines are lightly faded. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots.
