    Description

    First Edition, Original Source, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

    In the publisher's original cloth binding, with a 48 page catalogue at the rear dated 1881. Illustrated, with six plates and a folding map to the rear. From the library of Lt. Col. R.J. Wyatt MBE. Mitford served with the 14th Regt. Bengal Cavalry whilst it was engaged in war, and the advance on and occupation of Kabul. This work gives great detail of the campaign, including the death of Cavagnari. He notes to the introduction that this work is 'a sketch of personal experiences during the late Caubul Campaign, and thus its purely egotistical tenor will I trust be apologised for.' A first-hand insight into this military campaign.

    Condition

    In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of spine. Small split to the cloth at the head of front joint. A few light spots to the spine. Stamp to the front pastedown, 'University of Cape Town Library'. Prior owner's inscription to the front pastedown, Gladstone Solomon. Offsetting to the title page and frontispiece at the head from a paperclip. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional scattered spots to pages, heavier to the first and last few pages.
