The first edition. 

Illustrated throughout with illuminated letters, headpieces, tailpieces and monochrome vignettes. 

This work was written by British gardener and botanist Thomas Moore. This work was first published as an article in the ninth edition of 'Encyclopaedia Britannica' in collaboration with DR. Maxwell Masters, and was expanded and re-published as this edition. The work provides an overview of gardening, from building garden structures to flowers and fruits.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally excellent with slight rubbing to the joints, very small closed tears to the head of the spine, bumping to the extremities and the odd minor mark to the rear board. Front and rear hinge tender with a bookseller's label to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages with only very light age toning to the extremities of the pages and the odd spot, heavier to the front and rear. Past owner's name in ink to the half title.
