Description
Early Edition, Leather Binding, Rebound
George Eliot, pen name for Mary Ann Evans, was an English novelist and poet among other things. She wrote under pen name to escape the stereotype of women only writing romances, and became one of the leading authors during the Victorian era. Her writing is appreciated for her realism, countryside life depictions, and psychological insights.
This novel, originally published in eight parts in 1876, was the last novel she completed, and the only one set in the Victorian society of her day. With two main strands of plot, following the story of Gwendolen and that of Daniel Deronda, which unite by the title character. It contains a mixture of social satire and moral searching.
Daniel Deronda was adapted for for film three times and for stage.
