The biographical study of Alfred Stevens by Walter Armstrong. Stevens was a British sculptor, mainly popular for his work of the Duke of Wellington in St Paul's Cathedral. A thorough and detailed account of the life of a great sculptor

A stunningly illustrated book, with thirty six plates throughout the pages, as well as a frontispiece. 

Loosely inserted, a copy of a letter to Jenner and Dell from E Hemingway on 10 and 9 Eton Villa, Alfred Stevens' fromer study, in which he suddenly died, aged fifty seven, in 1875.

The letter discusses pricing for the sale of the house, with some descriptions: "[...] The house was partly build by Alfred Stevens, whose studio (in which the Wellington Monument for St Paul's was made) was on this site. The Dining Room contains mahogany panelling and other fittings on which Stevens was working at the time of his death in 1875 [...]"

Condition

In the original publisher's illustrated cloth binding. Externally smart with slight shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine as well as slight handling markings throughout to the front and rear boards. Loosely inserted, a copy of a letter to Jenner and Dell from E Hemingway on 9 Eton Vila, Alfred Stevens' fromer study. Internally, binding is firm with bright and clean pages. Illustrated throughout with thirty six plates by Alfred Stevens.
