Fine Binding, Leather Binding, Scarce, Signed Binding

The scarce two volume 1881 'Eversley Edition' of Charles Kingsley's historical adventure novel concerning the Anglo-Saxon resistance to the Norman Conquest. In lovely half morocco signed bindings from Bickers and Son.

Kingsley's novel follows the historical Anglo-Saxon figure Hereward as he leads the resistance against the Normans from a base in Ely. First published in 1866, this was Kingsley's final historical novel, and was instrumental in elevating Hereward into an English folk-hero.

Condition

In half morocco signed bindings, with paper covered boards. Small loss of leather to head of volume I front joint, with rubbing to paper of front board of volume II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright, with minor spotting to head of volume II title page.
