What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Folding Plates, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
The first edition of this very scarce biographical study of Thomas Graham, 1st Baron Lynedoch, from Captain Alexander Marin Delavoye.
Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, and a folding family pedigree to the rear.
Within this impressive volume, Delavoye provides 'a memoir of the most important features of Lord Lynedoch's distinguished life', including numerous examples of his own letters.
A fascinating man, Graham was a Scottish aristocrat, politician and British Army officer who inherited a substantial estate in Scotland, married and settled down to a quiet career as a landowning gentleman. However, following the death of his wife, when he was aged 42, Graham immersed himself in a military career, becoming involved in the English response to the French Revolution, and the Napoleonic wars.
