    Description

    Fine Binding, Folding Plates, Leather Binding

    With many diagrams and some fold-out plates. Containing a questionnaire produced by the Ministere des Traveaux Publics and sent to each of the five major railway operating companies. Each of their responses is present in full. The questionnaire was produced as an attempt to improve safety in response to a railway accident in 1879. Steps were then taken to standardise safety and signalling procedures across the different networks. A summary report of the findings presented to the Ministere des Traveaux Publics is also included. Most of the reports bear the signature of Francois Prosper Jacqmin (1820-1889), an influential engineer and commander of the Legion D'Honneur.

    Condition

    In a half morocco binding with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, slightly worn with bumping to corners and slight cracking to front joint. Internally, firmly bound with two pamphlets loosely inserted. Slight curling to some pages. Generally bright with light foxing to many pages, heavy in places.
