The first edition in book form of this work. Beautifully illustrated, with coloured plates by Alexander Francis Lydon and printed by Benjamin Fawcett. This work was original published in parts between 1864 and 1880. Selections from the original divisions appeared in 'The Ancestral Homes of Britain of 1868'. To this work, Morris provides an unparalleled survey of British and Irish country houses during the late Victorian era. A truly beautiful set.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear to the head and tail of spines. Light shelfwear to the extremities. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are very bright. Occasional offsetting from the plates.
