The first edition. Complete in four volumes. Privately printed for subscribers only, this being number 136. Presented to the Reverend Arthur Buxton and signed by the author. In the original quarter morocco binding. An impressive four volume set of The Massorah by Christian D. Ginsberg. The Massorah is the collection of information and comment on the text of the Hebrew Bible by the Masoretes, who were groups of Jewish scribe-scholars from the 5th-10th centuries based primarily in Tiberias and Jerusalem. This set comprises of: Volumes I - III, 'The Massorah, Compiled from Manuscripts and Alphabetically and Lexically Arranged'. Complete in three volumes from 1880 - 1885. In both Hebrew and English. Signed by the author to the limitations page. Volume IV, 'The Massorah, Translated into English with a Critical and Exegetical Commentary', 1897-1905. Signed by the author to the rear of the title page. Complete in one volume. limited signed first edition

Condition

In the original quarter morocco binding. Externally, a trifle rubbed with shelf wear to the edges and chipping and fraying to the spines. Marks to the boards. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age-toned but generally bright and clean. Some scattered spots towards the front and rear of the books. A few handling marks throughout and the occasional small tear. Author's ink inscription to the limitation pages in volumes I-III and to the rear of the title page in Volume IV.
