The first issue of this authorised edition, with the publisher's catalogue dated November 1878.
Major literary figure Henry James - author of such works as 'The Turn of the Screw' and 'The Ambassadors' - presents an uneasy combination of the social comedy and melodrama, in which American businessman Christopher Newman courts a young Parisian widow from an aristocratic family.
