Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce

The first edition of this scarce work from British publisher and writer Henry Richard Vizetelly. Vizetelly authored a number of works exploring his interests, with titles such as 'A History of Champagne', 'Facts about Sherry', and 'Facts about Port', and served as Wine Juror for Great Britain at the Vienna and Paris Exhibitions of 1873 and 1878.

This is in the incredibly rare and wonderful publishers pictorial wraps. An extraordinarily rare survival.

Illustrated with a frontispiece and thirty eight plates, with further vignette illustrations. Collated, complete.

Illustrated with drawings by Jules Pelcoq, W. Prater, Bertall, and more.

A fascinating history of champagne and other sparkling wines, looking in depth at the unique wine and how it differs from other varieties of sparkling wine.

With ten pages of advertisements to the front, and fourteen to the rear, alongside further advertisements to pastedowns.

To the rear board is the notice of a £500 reward for anyone able to supply information leading to the prosecution or conviction of those responsible for the production and sale of whiskies 'not of our manufacture, either duty paid or in bond, in a cask or casks, or in a bottle or bottles, bearing any of our respective names or trade marks'.
