Four volumes. A history spanning from the accession of Queen Victoria to the general election of 1880, with details of: science and speed, Chartism and young Ireland, the Exhibition in Hyde Park, the invasion of the Crimea, transportation, troubles in the East, the Reform agitation, Trades-Unions, and the anti-climax of Imperialism. Written by Justin McCarthy, an Irish nationalist, journalist, historian, novelist and politician.

Condition

Bound in half calf with marbled boards, edges, and endpapers. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear only. Joint starting to the head of Volume I but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light spotting to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown.
