What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Very Scarce

Four very scarce first editions - dated between 1879 and 1881 - bound in one.

'Judy; or the London Serio-Comic Journal', was a satirical humour magazine of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, where 'Fun' was founded in the 1860s as a rival to 'Punch'.

The first of the four works present is 'Sand and Shingle: A Select Assortment of Sea Side-Splitters, Pictorial and Prosaical'. With a half title and title page, and with vignette and full page illustrations throughout 'by Judy's artists', arranged by Charles H. Ross.

The second work, also with half title and title page, is ''Fun' on the Sands: A Holiday Book for Everybody', with illustrations to every page, which are the work of the Dalziel brothers.

The penultimate work, from Charles H. Ross, is 'There and Back, One Shilling: Being Judy's Seaside and Holiday Book'. With half title and title page, and with 'hundreds of pictorial pleasantries by Judy's Artists'.

The final work is Charles H. Ross's 'The Husband's Boat: A Book for Travellers, and for those who wait for the Travellers' Return', illustrated throughout by 'Judy's Artists'.

Illustrated with eight colour plates. Collated, complete.

A very scarce and highly humorous collection of works.
