First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

A scarce first edition set by Agustus John Cuthbert Hare, featuring his own illustrations of London landmarks.

Includes contemporary owner's inscription 'to Elsie, with Jack's love' dated 26th November 1881, and former owner's inscription 'D. L. Cumming'.

English writer, raconteur and artist Hare dedicates his first volume to the City of London, and the second to the West End and Westminster.

Condition

In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Some bumping to head and tail of spine, concentrated to volume I. Ripple in cloth binding to rear board of Volume II. Former owner's mark to verso of front free endpaper of volume I, and front paste down of volume II. Contemporary owner's inscription to both half title pages. Some spots to first and last few pages. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
