The first edition of this very scarce work.
An interesting memorial work on the English campaign in the South West of France during the Napoleonic Wars, with a focus on the sortie from Bayonne on the 14th April 1814.
Whilst also remembering the Battle of Bayonne, the intention of this work was to raise funds for the Tower at Biarritz. Pamphlet entitled 'The Biarritz Memorial' loosely inserted. The pamphlet describes a memorial to be made in honour of those who fell in the 1813-14 campaign. Both the author Philip Hurt, and Nathaniel Steevens are listed as subscribers.
Illustrated with a folding plate to the frontispiece, two folding maps, two folding plates, and six plates.

Bookplate of Nathaniel Steevens to the front paste down. Steevens was part of the 88th Regiment of Foot (Connaught Rangers) during the Crimean War.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A little discolouration to the boards and spine. Some minor marks, heavier to the rear board. Hinges are a little strained, particularly the front hinge. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with just a few odd spots.
