The first edition of this scarce work.

Complete in two volumes.

A detailed history and exploration of Burma, now known as Myanmar, by the Chief Commissioner of the British Colony of Burma, Albert Fytche.

Fytche dedicated this work to his first cousin, Alfred Lord Tennyson. 

Volume I is illustrated with a frontispiece, six colour plates, and six monochrome plates and in-text illustrations. Collated, lacking the front and rear endpaper, all plates are present.

Volume II is illustrated with a facsimile colour frontispiece, two colour plates, and three monochrome plates. Collated, lacking the plate facing page 63. Folding map and frontispiece are both provided in facsimile.

Thirty-two pages of adverts to the rear of Volume II.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, a little worn and rubbed. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Light marks and discolouration to the boards and spines. Hinges of Volume I are tender. Hinges of Volume II are starting but firm. Amaeteur pencil drawings to the paste downs and endpapers of Volume II. Lacking the endpapers of Volume I. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with some scattered spots. Plate facing page 128 in Volume I is detached but present, as is the plate facing page 104 in Volume II. Frontispiece and folding map in Volume II are provided in facsimile.
