What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding, Rebound

An early edition of this beloved work of Victorian children's literature. The fortieth thousand of this work, which was first published in 1872.

'Through The Looking-Glass' is set six months after 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', and contains the much loved poems 'The Jabberwocky' and 'The Walrus and the Carpenter', and the first appearance of Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

With fifty illustrations by John Tenniel, including a frontispiece, depicting many famous characters such as Tweedledum, Tweedledee and Humpty Dumpty. Collated, complete.

Upon the original publication of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland in 1865, Tenniel was far more well-known than Carroll, owing to his successful career as an illustrator and cartoonist, including many pieces for the satirical periodical 'Punch'.

Lewis Carroll (Charles Dodgson) was a mathematician and author best known for this work, the sequel to 'Alice Through the Looking-Glass'. These works are credited the best example of literary nonsense, and whilst the work was intended for children, the word play, logic and fantastical themes present in the work have interested and delighted scholars since its publication.
