With an additional lithographic title page titled 'Nimmo's Popular Poets' and stamped by Banks & Co Edinburgh. With a portrait frontispiece of Cowper, an illustrated title page featuring Cowper and several full page plates throughout. William Cowper was a poet and hymnodist. He was one of the most popular poets of his time and changed the direction of 18th century nature poetry by writing on the everyday life and scenes of the English countryside. He is often seen as one of the forerunners of Romantic poetry.
Condition
In a half calf binding with gilt stamped detailing to spine. Externally, smart with rubbing to the spine and joints. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Internally, binding is tender with several gatherings to the centre held by two cords only. Pages are bright and clean.
